I trust you all had excellent summers, and if you did it will have been a perfect prelude to an excellent Humanities program. We have ten great performances to prepare for and then attend. There are four operas, three plays, one ballet, and two symphony performances. In addition to studying these great masterpieces, we will survey the history of European/American Art and explore some of the great writers and composers of our cultural tradition.
That you signed up for Humanities already means you are an interesting person who is willing to explore and learn about and experience new things. In this first blog response, tell me and the rest of the class who will be reading this blog a little about yourself. Tell us about your experiences with various forms of theater and literature and art. Tell us why you took this class and what you hope to learn from it. Be honest, creative, interesting, and, of course, brilliantly entertaining.
This blog entry is due no later than midnight Sunday, September 15.
On the first line of your entry, write your first and last name and your class period.
Thank you for being part of this class and for helping to make it a good experience for all of us. I very much look forward to this year's performance and to experiencing them with you.

ReplyDeleteI have read many classic books in previous English classes, which had good lessons. I have been to the Seattle Art Museum, the Bellevue Art Museum and one in Vancouver, B.C. They rotate exhibits and have had some I really liked. I have seen a play or two at Seattle Rep& the ACT theater. I haven't seen any ballets, symphonies or operas yet, but I look foward to seeing them to experience them. I took Humanities, because I think we often get caught up in technology and forgot about the true arts. There are some very talented people and I look forward to expanding my interests and trying out some new events. I hope to learn about operas more and ballets and see what they are like. Seeing all these different events gives you diverse experiences, because they are all so different. I like trying new things.

ReplyDeleteDespite not having attended any ballets, operas, and symphonies in the past, I do have an experience with plays. The most important thing I have learned in terms of plays is the fact that studying them gives an insight to how arts, literature, and forms of theater compare to todays society. My main reason to take Humanities is to learn the history and the connection between old forms of art, music, literature, and acting compared to how they are used in today's modern world.
Jace Brandmeier; Period 4
ReplyDeleteI have very little experience in the theater world. I went to the nutcracker once when I was little, but I don't remember much. I also went to several of my cousins plays when I was little. They were good and entertaining. I am not a huge reader but I love to learn and try new things. I choose this class because it sounded like something new and interesting.
My name is Wyatt smith. I have had very little experience in the world of arts. I have been to one opera and I honestly found it very confusing but interesting at the same time. I enjoy watching plays and listening to good music of all different kinds, so im excited to hear some of the symphony concerts we will be going to this year. I took this class this year because I am interested in learning about the culture behind different art forms whether it be opera, ballet, or a play. I hope to take away a better understanding of all forms of art.

ReplyDeleteI have always been interested in the arts, and the amount of depth it creates, and the worlds to be explored. I've taken several drama classes when I was really young, and put on several plays. They were really fun, but I'd always forget my lines. Recently, I've taken the tech theater class here at WHS, and I loved it. My class was responsible for the musical comedy play, Into the Woods. I always felt better being behind the stage, to learn about the other side of productions. It was a lot of work, but my class pulled it all off fantastically.
In this class, I want to learn even more about the arts, and the significance these plays and operas still have on modern day. I also wanted to take this class because I wanted more historical works of art and literature to use in my own life, and feel smarter when I can make a reference to a ballet, or a symphony to my friends.
Maiah Swigert; Period 3
ReplyDeleteThrough out my life I have always been very interested in the arts. In elementary school and in junior high I was in theatre arts and I played Anne in Anne of Green Gables and the school teacher in The Pied Piper. Through out high school I participated in tech theatre and I have worked three plays and two musicals.I have seen four plays and five musicals outside of school, I am yet to attend an opera or symphony. I have seen The Nutcracker ballet twice and the Rockettes once. I enjoy seeing performances because I like to observe all the technical aspects to them and the meaning behind the performances.
From this class I would like to take a better understanding of the arts, past and present.
Tristan Liebrock, Period 3
ReplyDeleteI've been going to plays with my mom and cousin since I was about five. So I would say I have experience of being in a theater and seeing what it is like from one side. Also in 8th and 9th grade I was involved in the school plays as part of the back stage team. I took this class because I have heard how much fun it is to go to the shows but also how much fun Schindler is as a teacher.

ReplyDeleteI have only gone to see le miserables with my sister (who knew far more about it then I did) about two years ago. I am sad to say that I know every little about classic plays and got very little out of the experience other than loving the costumes and singing. I find that I get more out of a book or movie if I know a little about the history and plot before I watch it. I hope by taking this class I will get more of classical works of art.
Arlena McFarland, Period 4
ReplyDeleteLike many other people, I have not had the opportunity to enjoy very many performances. I do recall seeing a couple shows such as Phantom of the Opera, The Nutcracker, and multiple other plays. There is not anything quite like a live performance. So much is happening in so little time, the effects, the costumes and most of all the stories behind it all. Humanities to me means studying the history of human culture. Honestly I'm not sure why I'm interested in a class like this, I just want to broaden my interest in the arts and learn about the great artist and composers who have left a great impact on our society.
Michael Stiles Period 3
ReplyDeleteMy experience in theater is next to nil, aside from school plays and sounds of silence last year. I loved going to the Moore theater in Seattle when I was much younger, watching a live performance in person is like nothing else because it is so unique. I was first told about this class by a friend who took it last year that enjoyed it. From the many things Ive heard about humanities I know this will be a great year. I wish to take away a deeper understanding of the "Human Experience" and maybe see life in a way like no other.

I have very little actual experience with theater. I remember going to a few plays when I was younger in elementary school as field trips, but couldn't remember the name of any of them. I'm definitely interested in theater and how it works, but have never taken the time to learn too much about it, which is why I chose to take humanities. I heard it was a fun class and I learn way more from interactive experiences. Going to plays and actually experiencing things the class learns about will 100% broaden everyone's interest, and understanding of anything a teacher is teaching. I love art and enjoy doing it myself but I don't know much about this form of performing and expressing, so I want to learn more about this type of art and see what it means to me.

ReplyDeleteTheater has played a significant part in my life since a young age. In elementary school and in the summer I was involved in the school plays and drama camps. Being onstage gave me a sense of accomplishment and boosted my confidence. As I grew older, I transitioned from being onstage to being in the audience. I have attended countless productions in Seattle and some in New York City. My favorite production I've seen to date is Macbeth on Broadway last spring. It was acted by one man, Alan Cumming, who memorized the entire play and every character. It was set in a mental ward and had amazing special effects. However, the reason I enjoyed it the most was that in English, we had just finished studying it so I knew the story and the deeper meanings of why the actor did things the way he did. I'm excited to relive that feeling when we go see productions as a class. While I was in New York, I went to the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art which both were incredible. One piece of artwork that stuck with me was one of Edward Munch's etching's of The Sick Child. It's in a series of six pieces that are all a bit different but all depict his younger sister dying of tuberculosis. At the MOMA, they have one piece from the series of six; it's a close up of her face, hair strewn everywhere, with a look of acceptance on her face. Munch only used a little bit of red in her hair, the rest was black and white. The piece overwhelms you with sadness, but there is a certain beauty to it that counteracts the sadness as well. I think that developing an appreciation for the arts widens everyone's world view and makes you an all-around better person. That's the main reason I took Humanities, I want to continue developing my appreciation for the arts. I have no doubt that this class will help me accomplish that and I am excited for the year to come!
Mack Ohnemus, Period 3
ReplyDeleteI have been involved with theatre throughout my life. When I was younger, I was the lead in a play. Growing older, I transitioned from onstage to backstage or the audience. I am an active member in the tech theatre class at WHS, working a variety of different shows. I have seen musicals and plays, but yet to an opera or symphony. When watching performances, I tend to focus on the technical aspects. I hope to be able to explore the literature side of shows and be a more well rounded theatregoer. All of my friends and my brother have highly raved about this class.
Ashley Barnett, Period 3
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I have never been involved in any school plays or been in any drama classes. However I have seen a small handful of plays from school field trips and little funny musical plays such as Elf and Beauty and the Beast in Seattle with my family. I enjoyed the plays I saw and this year in class I look forward to seeing more.
I wanted to take humanities because this year is my senior year of high school. Since this will be the end of my high school education before college I think it is important to utilize all of the opportunities given to you at Woodinville. This year I have decided to take a range of class that will help expand my educational resume and broadened my mind and the way I view future English classes in college. Since Humanities is very different than any other English classes I have ever taken I knew this class would be my best choice for achieving my goal of becoming a more well rounded student my senior year. I know this class will be a great way to build new experiences and also be very useful in adding to my college application. I’m really excited to start this year!

ReplyDeleteI have very little theatre experience. In elementary school, my class attended a few performances in Seattle, and I attended a few of my sisters ballets. Though I don't know much about theatre, the main reason I find it interesting, similar to Wyatt, is the culture which lies upon the performance itself. Throughout public education and common knowledge, we learn about how politics and life were in the time of the great composers. However, watching theatre allows the audience to really see and better understand the minds of the composers, and what exactly they portrayed life to look like in their time. I will be most interested in the environment around the character, followed by the character her/himself. I took this class because I personally enjoy the process and excitement of going to Seattle and watching a performance. I am looking forward to the event that is made around the performance itself, and seeing the effort that the performers put into their work. Also, my sister Gracie took this class, and seemed to really enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteMy entire family is built up of theatre lovers. Both of my older siblings took Humanities, and they were also both involved in the theatre company of Woodinville High School, my sister as an actor, and my brother as part of the tech crew. We've gone to a number of musicals and plays, from Wicked to my very favorite so far, War Horse. I started out acting while in Timbercrest Junior High, but moved on to tech theatre now that I'm here. Those two things have only made me love the theatre more, and I can't wait to see what humanities has in store for us, both because of my siblings experience with the class, and for the performances we'll get to see.
I am very involved in the arts. My passion is music, and I love making/studying art. When I was little, I always loved going to plays held at Molbaks or at the SecondStory Repertory at the Redmond Town Center with my mom and sister or with my preschool at least once every other week. In elementary school, I went on a couple of field trips to see a performance in Seattle, but after elementary school, I haven't gone to as many performances. I was able to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway in 2007 and I especially loved that performace because you could really tell that so much hard work and decidication had been put into this production and it was inspiring to see the actors perform with so much passion. The last perfomance I went to was The Wizard of Oz in London at the London Palladium. I have never seen such incredible special effects and technical theater, it was amazing to see such advanced theater. I decided to take Humanities because I want to become more involved in theatre again, but I am also excited to broaden my horizon and attend a ballet, operas, and symphonies as well.

ReplyDeleteIn elementary school, I've seen maybe one or two plays, although I can not remember them. But I am always interested in the arts. I love music and I just like art. Going to these operas, plays, a ballet, and symphony performances this year are going to be like a whole new experience and it is going to really fun. I'm excited to learn more about them and to watch them. This class will teach me more about the arts.

ReplyDeleteI have little experience in the theatre world. I remember going to some plays in elementary but thats about it. I do love classical music and look forward to attending the symphonies though. I took this class because its going to give me opportunities to learn more about operas and attend them with some background knowledge. I have heard such great things about this class and im excited to see what the class will teach me and the knowledge it will give me.
I have never been apart of a play at school or out of school, but I do respect and enjoy the art of acting. Though, my favorite form of art has to be music. Everywhere I go I am listening to it, I listen all kinds of it (Excluding country). I am excited for the symphonies and operas that we all will be attending, and am seriously looking forward to going to the plays. I am extremely glad that I have this class, and I was excited for senior year because of it. My sister told me a lot about all that we do, and I am happy to say and I can't wait to start!
ReplyDeleteChris Reed, why don't you listen to country? It is a beautiful form of music that should be thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. I think you should give it a try :)

ReplyDeleteI have always enjoyed theatre, classic literature, and art. I used to study ballet and I was taught under a former ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet. I have been a part of many productions with larger audiences. I know what has to be done in order to make a performance good and I love and appreciate the final product. I have been to many cities in Europe such as Venice and Paris that are known for their rich culture and there visited museums such as the Louvre. I also enjoy literature and consider myself a classic movie buff. This class will give me the opportunity to be exposed to more plays, ballets and symphonies but also will introduce me to opera and Seattle’s performing arts scene.
I have always been very interested in theatre and the art of theatre. Once in junior high I went to a performance with my grandparents and I can honestly say I really enjoyed it. But I haven't been able to attend any since then. I am really eager to go to more plays and theatrical performances since I haven't been able to go to any recently.

ReplyDeleteI have never had much of an involvement in the arts. Though, of the few experiences I have had, I ‘ve loved every one. A few years ago I went the Seattle Art Museum and was fascinated with the range of collections on display. Visiting the museum reminded me to give a greater appreciation to the arts and all the history that's behind it. I chose to take Humanities because I have always felt a small passion towards the arts, but never took much time to pursue it. Taking Humanities will allow me the opportunity to pursue that small passion and hopeful develop a greater interest in it. In Humanities I hope to learn more about the diversity within theater and all the history that comes with it.

ReplyDeleteThroughout my life I have always had an interest for the arts. Ever since I was young I have loved making art. I’ve been taking art classes for 8 years. My passion is painting. I love to paint in the style of impressionism and Claude Monet is my absolute favorite artist. Right now I’m still taking art classes and teaching art classes to kids. My interest for the arts has definitely developed from my family’s travels to Europe. So far I have been to Europe 4 times. Going to art museums like the Musee d’ Orsay, Musee d’ Orangerie and the Louvre in France have really inspired me. I have also had experiences with theater in Europe. My favorite play I have seen up to date is Peter Pan in England. It was in the park and under this gigantic tent. The play had amazing visual effects and the actors were also able to fly across the stage. In that moment I remember I felt like I was being transported to Neverland, it was a very magical experience. That play really sparked my interest in theater once I came back from England. During junior high I became involved in tech theater at our school. I did running crew for several plays. Being behind the scenes in those plays really taught me and made be appreciate everything that has to go into a production. Ever since then I haven’t been involved in tech theatre but I still go to see many plays and musicals with my family. I chose to take this class because I have a passion for the arts, and I want to learn more. For this class I am very excited to learn more about the opera, and ballet because I have never been. I hope this class will help me gain a better understanding and perspective on the arts.

ReplyDeleteAs far as I can remember I have never spent much time at a theatre, ballet, opera, or being involved with drama/acting. However this is one of the main reasons I decided to take humanities and expand my knowledge of the arts. I look forward to learning more about theatre and developing a passion for various types performances. I believe an open mind is the best way to approach something new and I am looking forward to this year of WHS Humanities.

ReplyDeleteStory, it drives me, fuels my curiosity, brings out the better part of me. I love to listen to tales of glory or woe. I read literature, graphic novels, and even comics. It enthralls me. So when I learned that there was a class for exactly this, I had to jump at it. I see humanities as a chance to experience classical stories that are unlike anything I have experienced before. This is why I joined WHS humanities, for the experience. And I eagerly await the first trip.
Gracelyn Nelson, Period 3
ReplyDeleteI have always had a HUGE appreciation for the arts. That is one of the many reasons why I enrolled in this class. I remember performing scenes from Annie in my Grandparents living room at three years old. Unfortunately, I have been to very few performances. I have been in a couple of elementary school performances, but that is all. Although, I am a huge movie/television freak. I love everything from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to Napoleon Dynamite. Every once in a while I will break out one of my Bob Hope movies as well. I was in the video production class here at WHS, and I absolutely loved it. I have been making movies with friends from a very early age. I was a gymnast for ten years, but I have always been told that I should be an actress or dancer because I am more of a story teller. I cannot wait for this year because learning through art really captures my interest. Also, being able to go and enjoy these performances will really complete the learning experience!
Andrew Hurst Period 4
ReplyDeleteCompared to many I have little direct experience with theatre. At a young age I went to some plays, and ballets that I always thought were fun, and Interesting because of how different they could seem be from each other but still fallowing the same schema.
Art is something I’ve always enjoyed; when I was young I wasn’t much of a fan of art but about 2 years ago I took a job at a local online art reproduction company. That worked with some very popular museums of which exposed me to a much broader range of art than I thought existed lots of which I liked which made my view of art change dramatically.
I signed up for this class because I came to the realization that storytelling, and art are some of the earliest mediums of conveying ideas, thought, and emotion. Having a better understanding of these mediums how they are used and how they are similar, and connected at a core level to newer mediums that serve the same purpose will help me understand what people connect to so I can emphasize those key traits in my projects so people can understand easier.
Mimi Gerhardt, Period 4
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to be in this class as the only sophomore this year, and I can't wait to go to all of these fantastic performances! I obviously am very involved with the arts, as the last time I've been in a theatrical production happened to be sixth grade. All jokes aside, I've seen several different musicals, from Shrek to Wicked and The Addams Family. When I was younger, I use to take piano lessons, and my teacher would invite me and several other students to join her to see the Seattle Symphony perform. I was a part of her "symphony group" for about three years, and saw many different symphonies that were always incredibly different, and always wonderful. My brother's girlfriend had always said good things about this class, as well as the teacher, and she knew my love for writing and reading, so she thought this class would be a great pick for me. It was pure luck I was actually put into this class; I had signed up for both AP European History and AP Art History, but those classes ended up not having enough students to fill a full class. I'm very excited to be doing a class where I'm able to watch a live show dedicated to what we're learning about, rather than a lecture or Socratic seminar!
My involvement in theater has started at a young age, I did drama activities in elementary school and preformed in a couple plays and in junior high I also did drama doing two plays and being a lead roll in one of the plays. I have a good experience in the acting part of the theater, but I have never sat down and watched a play being performed as an audience member. I signed up for humanities to study new plays and be able to watch plays and be able have an experience from both the acting a viewing side of theatre. Also talking to many former students who had the class said they enjoyed it and had a good time. My favorite kind of art is music. I enjoy listening to music anytime I can. Mostly when I'm alone because it something you can do by yourself and don't need someone else to enjoy. It's the type of thing that brings all kinds of emotions out of people and touches people. I hope to have a great time in this class this year and hope to learn new things about theater.
ReplyDeleteAbbey Folsom, period 2
ReplyDeleteI started playing the piano at age 8 and that was the start of my love for music and the arts. When I switched piano teachers, I found out that she has a symphony group and I was asked to join that. We went to all kinds of symphonies and most of them were really enjoyable which has really helped my love for music grow. Also, I have two older sisters who have taken Humanities and they have both brought me with me when they had to makeup operas or ballets. I took this class because I wanted to learn more about the arts and to go see more plays, operas and ballets around the Seattle area. I am really looking forward to this year and all the many things I will learn from the depth we will go into on these plays and operas.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I've never attended an opera or symphony, I've been to several ballets and a few plays. I was involved in theater for two years in elementary school which turned out to be quite a good experience. I'm interested in art, and paint as much as I can outside of school, but hope to learn more about operas seeing as I've never been to one. I chose to take this class because I feel that art, literature, and music is always around us and I would like to better understand these elements.

ReplyDeleteI have never really shown much interest in the theatre. In 6th grade I was able to partake in a school play which was very fun. Although seeing that we will be attending operas I am very interested in seeing what kind off experience it will be. Even though I am not the most enthusiastic about the theatre, I am willing to try. Now that I am taking Humanities it will give me the chance I need to follow through with my small passion for it.

ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed watching plays, ballets, and one opera. I love music and have am currently in the WHS chior so I am really excited to hear the music in the Plays and Operas. I find it amazing how someone can project their voice so far and the amazing notes that opera singers hit. I also really enjoy theater and go on a regular basis. The last show I saw was Sister Act and it was amazing. I took Humanities this year because I was fascinated with the idea of delving deeper into the script of plays and operas, the music of symphonies, and the choreography of ballets to gain a better understanding when watching the performance

ReplyDeleteI have only gone to one opera and that was with my grandparents a couple years ago. It did not interest me at all and I have not been to one since. I have never been to musicals and never done drama. Even though I found my first opera boring, I hope to start finding them more interesting as I go to more. I am taking Humanities because I don't understand how all the musical elements and plays work so I'm interested to learn about them.

ReplyDeleteI can’t say that I have all that much experience with plays, operas or other theatrical performances. However, a few of my family members have worked in these fields. I have been to one Broadway play, one opera and a few symphony performances quite a long time ago. I found them somewhat boring as a child but I hope that by taking humanities this year and exposing myself to these performances at a more mature age, I can gain a new respect for them.
My name is Chris Root, and throughout my life I have been to a few theatrical plays. I was interested in taking this class because I felt like it would help me understand the meanings of art. Iv'e always struggled with comprehending stage performances, and truly understanding what the characters are doing. I'm excited for this year, and I'm ready to learn more about theater.

ReplyDeleteI have more or less no experience with performing arts and English literature outside of the standard English class, and have only liked a few books that I've read in those classes. I took this class because I thought it would be an easy credit, but I'm starting to become more interested in the plays, operas, etc. we will see.

ReplyDeleteI have been to many plays and ballets, but never have I seen an opera or a symphony! Music and the arts have always been a passion in my life. I played the piano for nearly 10 years and I currently play guitar. Art has always been one of my strengths, and one of my favorite things to do in my free time. I took humanities because I thought it would add some diversity to my life and make my schedule a little more interesting! I am looking forward to the many great shows we get to see this year, and I hope I have a blast!

ReplyDeleteI have seen a few plays and a couple ballets, I think, but never a symphony or an opera. Unless you're counting the movie version of Phantom of the Opera, which you probably are not. I've seen the nutcracker a couple of times and A Christmas Carol once. I've been a part of a couple school plays but other than that, I don't have much experience with the art of theater. I took this class because I actually really enjoy watching plays and I thought that the class would be an interesting take on humanities. I took humanities at another school, but it was half English and half social studies (a two period class). I hope to gain a greater knowledge of the arts and a better understanding of the literature.

Music has always been a pretty big part of my life, and I’ve also become more interested in art and art history. I took humanities because I think that the arts as a whole is a huge part of our culture, and it would be interesting to learn more by studying and going to these plays.

ReplyDeleteI have always been very into anything having to do with music and when I learned that Humanities was a class where you studied literature, ballet, opera, and art, I became very interested and I talked to some of my friends who took Mr. Schindlers class last year and they told me he was a great teacher and it was a very interesting class I decided to take it. I look forward to going to the opera's and ballets because when I was younger I thought they were very fun to go to and experience all the art that is in it. I look forward to having a great year with Mr. Schindler.

ReplyDeleteIn addition to having been involved in all types of art throughout my life (plays, dance, music, and material art), I took Humanities last year and loved it so much I just had to take it again (and plan on taking it senior year)! Every type of art has always fascinated me, and I'm most interested in literature. I plan to edit and/or write books when I'm out of college. Ballets are my favorite to watch--I wanted to be a ballerina for the longest time when I was a kid--, but I can't get enough of any type of art, really. I hope to expand my knowledge of art history even further than what I learned last year and be taught how to analyze and make opinions on the performances. And as always, have a great time while doing it, as is only too easy with Mr Schindler!

I have always loved going to plays and musicals, and I am looking forward to going to more this year. I am also excited to study and see operas, I have never been to one before, and I know it'll be a great experience. ReplyDeleteI have little to no experience in theater. I have been to plays put on by the highschool and junior high for fun, but I have never been to a big production or opera. I know I will enjoy the plays, operas, and ballets and am excited for the experience! In English class the past few years we have read and acted out different scripts, which I thought was fun. I chose this class because I have heard from so many students that this was one of their favorite classes, so I thought I would enjoy it. I think this class will be good for me because I don't think it will get boring because we get to do/experience new things.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I have a minimal amount of experience with theater, but the experiences I’ve had were quite amazing and unforgettable. I was exposed to a couple pieces of literature due to my high school English classes, but I never really had the interest to peruse it on my own. But I do have a lot of experience with fine arts because my family is quite artistic but of course I am the exception to that. I am the only member of the family that is more interested in the sciences rather than art. My family visits a lot of art exhibits to try help my sister better herself in the arts. I took this class so that I can be a better-rounded student so that I look more appealing to colleges and also be more knowledgeable on the arts and of course know more about how these pieces influenced our culture.

ReplyDeleteI have been acting in plays since I was 6 years old. I have been in tons of different plays and musicals both in and out of school. I would say that I definitely have a strong understanding of the fine arts. Not only do I have a lot of experience with the fine arts, but I also have a lot of dance background as well. I have been dancing since I was three years old.I have gone to ballet's as a child but I couldn't tell you what they were. The reason that I took this class is because of my artistic flare. I love to act and dance and watch others do the same. I figured this class would be perfect for me just because of how much I can relate to the people in these plays/operas/ballets who all share the same passion as me. I have also heard nothing but good things about Humanities at WHS so I am really looking forward to this school year. It's easy for me to learn about things that I am motivated to learn about. I am exited to study and learn new things in your Humanities class this year which almost makes me forget this is an English credit! Thanks, can't wait. :o)
From my one experience of going to a theatrical play I have learned that performing these performances take many hours of learning lines and practicing. I hope to learn more about the mind set of the actors and what their mental preparations to be able to perform plays. This class is the perfect opportunity for me to experience these amazing thought processes.

ReplyDeleteI have been a part of Theater for 3 years now at woodinville high school. Before that I was in choir for 5 years. The arts have always been a big part of my life. So obviously, when I heard about this class I wanted to sign up immediately. I hope that taking this class can further expand my knowledge of the arts in professional theater because I have only been exposed to high school theater and a couple of the shows at the 5th avenue. I am excited to further expand my knowledge of the professional acting world by learning in this class

ReplyDeleteI don't really have that much experience with plays, and operas. When I was younger I went to one that I don't remember the name of. In 9th grade I was in a play but other than those two things I have no experience with the arts. I took humanities this year because it sounded like a fun class and I thought it would be good for me to expose myself to the arts.

ReplyDeleteI've had a lot of experience playing music from some of the great composers of these plays and operas, but never in the context of the entire opera or play. I did play in the pit for Hello Dolly and that was a fun experience even if i didn't get to watch the actual play and only heard it. I enjoy music and plays and this class was an obvious choice for me.

ReplyDeleteEver since elementary school I have been exposed to quite a bit theater. Sometimes by choice, but mostly by force. My older brother has always had a great passion for theater and acting, while I would rather be out playing soccer or going for a run. He was a part of the Timbercrest Junior High Theater Company, as well as the Woodinville HS Theater Company. Needless to say I had seen every junior high/high school play since I was in sixth grade. My brother continues to act in many plays and one acts at the University of Washington, further exposing me to more theater. Regardless of being forced to go to these shows, I had always enjoyed every one. Even after my brother graduated, I continue to see all of the high school plays and musicals. This life of theater may have been forced upon me, but I have never taken it for granted. Theater is the only kind of art I have had any real exposure to. I chose to take Humanities because I’m interested to learn more about not only theater, but other parts of art and literature as well. I have always been an athlete and nothing else, but maybe this class will help me further my exposure to all kinds of art.
I have had little experience with theater except for attending a couple of shows and performing in a winter play in elementary school. Being in a play was not something that I was expecting to like, but surprisingly i did! I was the narrator of my fifth grade Christmas play and loved learning the lines with my friends and performing for my parents. My favorite play that I have been to was Wicked. I loved the comedic live interaction with the audience more than a movie or TV show. I remember loving the plays and performing, but never pursued theater any further. With this class, I am looking forward to learning more about the theatrical show business and the stories that inspire them. I enjoy reading plays more than novels because of the greater character interaction. I am also excited to broaden my knowledge of the theater and experience theatrical aspects that I wouldn't have without this class.

ReplyDeletei have been to quite a few theater performances, some i have really liked while others i could not wait to leave. i have also been to a few ballets and i found them very interesting rather exciting. but i am excited to go to operas because those sound very interesting and batman's parents got killed coming out of an opera so that adds to the excitement.my theater experience may be limited but i have read quite a few plays and when you actually understand the story line i find them very interesting.

ReplyDeleteI have been an avid performer since the age of 7. I started playing piano at 6 and the moment I touched the keys I knew what I wanted to do: perform. Ever since then, I have been on (and under) many stages. The only point of view I've had of the arts is mainly from music. I have been to multiple performances by the Seattle Symphony and a few ballets. Last year, I played piano for WHS's "Hello, Dolly!" Listening to the actors sing and dance made me want to explore more of the arts. They were amazing and inspired me to take Humanities. I am hoping to learn more about the history of the arts and take on a greater appreciation.

ReplyDeletei don't have any experience with theater performances. The reason why i took class is that i needed .5 credit of English. I'm glad i took this class because i will get experience with theater performance.
